Round 3 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 86 - Chest & Back

I switched things up.  After working out at home the last 9 months with P90X and Insanity, I was experiencing a case of cabin fever.  So from today thru New Year's Eve, I will do my resistance training at the gym.

For day 84 I went for a 3 mile jog and day 85 I walked 3 miles.  There are 5 more days left in this round and for my recovery week I will be doing some weight lifting before I start P90X 2!!!

Round 3 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 74-75

Day #74 - 3 Mile Jog and Bench Press - The schedule said that today was supposed to be Max Cardio Conditioning but after doing one routine or another of Insanity since June, I've decided that its time to pull back on the length of my cardio.  So from now on I will be doing Fast & Furious as well as jogging for my Cardio.

I had a failure to launch on day 52.  So this morning I had to make up the session.  This work-out sneaks up on you.  The first 3 movements are pretty basic but that second round is where the burn starts.  By switching between low reps/high weights and high reps/low weights every week, my arms are bigger that they have ever been.

Round 3 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 42 - Kenpo X

Week 6 is officially completed!!!!  Tomorrow I'm switching back to Phase I.  I miss the quantity of push-ups that come with chest and back.  As this is "my" P90X/Insanity Hybrid, I'm also adding Insanity's Upper Body Work-Out.  Two hundred push-ups will complete my Shoulders & Arms and Insanity's Upper Body Work-Outs.  Plyometrics will replace Legs & Back.  Two days for Insanity's Cardio and Insane Abs.

Tomorrow I strive for 300 push-ups.

I've noticed better results since I cut back to two Cardio sessions per week.  I focus even more and dig even deeper now because I don't want to "waste" a session.  With 50 days left in this round, I'm at 242lbs.  The initial goal was 240lbs, now it's 230lbs.

I'm slowly but surely getting closer tot hat 300 push-up goal.  This is a little harder that it was in the past because now I'm not pausing the DVD and I'm bringing my chest closer to the floor.  I've also changed the program.  No more abs 6 times a week.  From now on 3 times a week is the max.  I will alternate ARX, Cardio Abs and Insane Abs every other day.

Round 3 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 17 - Max Interval Plyo and Cardio Abs

Approximately 860 calories burned this morning.  I'm drenched, exhausted and very pleased with myself.  If all of my cardio work-outs go as well as today's did, I should be able to lose 10-15 pounds by Thanksgiving.  Well I can only hope so.

Fast & Furious is the absolute best Cardio work-out ever!!!!!  The fact that it's only 20mins long makes it that much better.  Insane Abs is exactly what the name implies......INSANE!!!!

Round 3 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 4 - Shoulders & Arms and ARX

The numbers don't lie!!!! The higher reps and less weights is harder than I thought but I love the burn. This is my first time completing ARX. I know you're like huh? Haven't you done this before?  And yes but not full sets. For each exercise one full set is 25 and normally I may fall short but not that far off.  But this morning, I was able to do a full set for each exercise.

Round 3 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 2 - Plyometric Cardio Circuit and Cardio Abs

I forgot to mention yesterday that I'm starting this round at 250lbs.  My goal is to get down to 240lbs and to lose 2in off my 36in waist. 

This morning's Plyo was great!! My legs are still shaking.  Cardio Abs was a struggle, but I made it through. 

Day 2 is in the books with a 2 thumbs up rating!!

One day left in this round and I'm already thinking about the next round.  When do I start? Sept. 18th or Sept. 25th?  Should I go with lighter weights to slim down? Or do I go with heavier and bulk up?  The only thing that I know is that I have to do at least one week of Insanity's Upper Body WOrk-Out.

I really felt the burn this morning.  This was the last work-out of recovery week, but since my wrist isn't 100% yet, I'm going to suspend this round and this blog until Sept 4.  I will do various Cardio and Ab routines next week but I'm not going to blog about them.  With only two weeks left in the round I want to be able to finish strong.

I had to modify this work-out this morning.  I couldn't do the push-ups so I did extra power jumps, high knees and globe twists.  My wrist isn't as painful as it was yesterday but it isn't 100% yet either.

Due to a sprained wrist, I wasn't able to attempt or complete my quest for 350 push-ups.  I went for a two mile walk instead.  I'm going to do a week of Cardio until my wrist gets better.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 70 - Kenpo X and X Stretch

To make up for my "cheat" night(15 hot wings and a side order of curly fries) I threw some Kenpo X into the mix.  After I burned a few calories, I took a five minute break, drank some Results and Recovery drink and did a session of X-Stretch.  The quest for 350 push-ups starts in 17 1/2 hours.

Thank goodness tomorrow(X-Stretch) is a break day.  I was on fumes with about 20mins left in this routine.  The push-up jacks almost made me tap out.  But I was able to dig deep and get it done!  Cardio Abs was a beast as usual.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 65 - Max Interval Plyo & Cardio Abs

I'm happy to say that I was able to make it through the entire DVD without having to press pause.  The level III drills were especially tough after yesterday's chest work-out.  The 16 push-ups at a pop was felt in my chest and triceps.  Great work-out!!!  Cardio Abs was tough!!!

Day 63: This was an X-Stretch day which as always was relaxing but there isn't any need to go into detail and write about it.

Day 64: Chest & Shoulders and Insane Abs....this work-out was a beast!!!! I've noticed significant improvements in regards to my strength.  After a 15minute break and a serving of Results and Recovery Formula, I completed Insane Abs without pausing!! Great work-out!!!

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 62 - Max Cardio Conditioning and Cardio Abs

I love this DVD!!!!  I could do this routine 3 or 4 times a week and be extremely happy.  My stamina, speed and coordination has improved to the point that I no longer need to press pause.  I can just go straight through.  Same with Cardio Abs and I'm seeing the results as my waist is slimming down.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 60 - Fast & Furious and Cardio Abs.....Embrace the Sweat

Initially I considered this to be a "break" day.  That thought was quickly erased 2mins into Fast & Furious.  I don't know how, but I forgot how crazy and intense that 21mins was.  Needless to say I was dripping with sweat as usual.  Cardio Abs wasn't any better.  By the time I got to a frame abs my obliques were on fire!!!!!  This was a perfect "break" day.......Short & Sweet!!!

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 58 - Max Interval Plyo and Insane Abs

I chose to do Max Interval Plyo because I felt I needed to do something for my legs.  But I have to pull back on the days that I do Insane Abs. The total of 90mins of Cardio may be a bit too much.  I was able to get everything in but I didn't like the fact that I had to pause the DVD 3 times.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 57 - Chest & Back and ARX

I set my sights on 300 push-ups this morning, and I was able to do 340.  I will say that I had to pause the DVD a few times to get in extra push-ups.  But I was pleased to see improvement from the last time I did this back routine on day 14.  Next time I"m shooting for 350.  After a 15min break and some Results and Recovery formula, I was able to get in ARX.  I put up some solid numbers.

Today is the last day of my Recovery Week Phase.  As usual X-Stretch was what the doctor ordered.  Not only did I get a good sweat but it was very relaxing and it got a kink out of my back.  I have a 30 minute jog and an hour bike ride scheduled for 1 o'clock today.  I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's quest for 300 push-ups.

This mornings work-out was very therapeutic.  Kenpo X isn't as intense as Insanity but it is still a great calorie burner.  I always consider this routine one of the best when you want to do some cardio, but you don't want to get to crazy.  ARX was nice because I didn't count reps, I just went with as many reps as I could do.

I struggled with this routine the last two times that I did it so I had to shut my mind off and let my body do the work.  I made it thru pretty well until I got to the moving push-ups.  That's when I felt yesterday's upper body work-out.  I embraced the pain!!! Ditto with Cardio Abs after yesterday's Insane Abs!!!!

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 52 - Insanity's Upper Body Work-Out and Insane Abs

I previewed both DVDs last night, so I knew that this was going to be intense!!  I went with 25 and 30 pound dumbbells for the upper body work-out.....And I still felt it.  I have to have this in rotation at least once a week because I can see my upper body blowing up with this in conjunction with P90X.  Insane Abs is exactly that.  I had to pause the DVD twice to keep up.

This mornings session started off pretty bad.  I guess I didn't bring my "A" game.  I got frustrated after 10 minutes and stopped the DVD.  After 5 minutes of cursing myself out I started over.  It went much better the 2nd time without question.  I still feel that this is the hardest routine that I've done by far but I took less breaks and finished pretty well.  I'm in a nice groove with Cardio Abs and the
"6-pack" is starting to peek out slowly but surely.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 44 - Max Interval Cardio and Cardio Abs

Today's Max Plyo session was tough.  The amount of push-ups that I had to do after yesterday's Chest, Shoulders and Triceps was almost criminal...lol!! And don't get me started on the amount of sweat that I swallowed.  Overall I had an excellent work-out.  Cardio Abs is actually getting easier.....But in another week or so I plan on ordering Insane Abs to get my 6 pack.

I started this morning at 4:30 and it was already 79degrees.  I took some breaks when I felt lightheaded but I made it through pretty well.  My P90X numbers including ARX are pretty consistent.

Insanity's Fast & Furious was a totally different thing.  I paused the DVD 3x's to make sure that I completed everything.  1800 calories burned.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 41 - Max Interval Circuit & Cardio Abs

I had to really dig deep this morning.  I tweeted about how hard Insanity's Max Interval Circuit is......And I will say it again, this was the hardest thing that I've done since my first week in basic training 23 years ago.  I don't think there is anything easy about this one, but it was very gratifying to finish.  I took a ten minute break before Cardio Abs and I had some Results & Recovery drink.  Another great work-out in the books.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 40 - Legs & Back, Insanity's Fast & Furious and ARX

I knew that I had close to a 2hr work-out this morning, so I dropped the weight and went with more reps.  Not surprising that I felt more of a burn without weights.

Insanity's Fast and Furious was a true grind after P90X Legs & Back.  I had to dig deep but I'm proud to say that I came through with flying colors.

After a 5min break I was able to put up some pretty nice numbers for ARX.  By the time I got tot he Mason Twist I was starving!!!!!  Close to 1800 calories burned.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 39 - Max Cardio Conditioning

I was going to take a "break" today by doing a session of Kenpo X but I felt a surge of energy when I woke up so decided to "Dig Deep" and went with Max Cardio Conditioning.  Technically I did take a break since I didn't do any Ab work but I burned approximately 1100 calories.  Another great work-out!!!!

Surprisingly I had some energy after the grinding morning work-out but I didn't want to go too crazy so I choose to do X-Stretch.  Of course it wasn't the calorie burner that I could have chosen but it was just what the Dr. ordered.  The neck stretches and the glute stretch in particular were very relaxing.

Round 2 P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 37 - Max Interval Cardio and Cardio Abs

I decided to up the ante by moving on to month 2 of Insanity.  I'm glad that I was able to "Dig a little Deeper" than before because I think that I had one of my best sessions ever.  I'm sure that my legs will feel this tomorrow.  After a five minute break to catch my breath, I did a round of Cardio Abs.  I love the way that the sweat dripped into my eyes and mouth.  Insanity has a way of bringing out your inner beast!!! I love it!!!

I should have given a little more thought into attempting Power & Resistance the day after P90X Legs and Back.  After the initial pain(a good pain) from Power Jacks, I made it thru pretty well.  One more session in month 1 of Insanity tomorrow, then I'm moving on to month two.  Time to burn some serious fat.

Shaun T kicked ass my this morning!!!!!  I'm not going to lie, I had to take two breaks during the routine.  That isn't bad but it shows me that I'm not ready to move on to month two of Insanity just yet.  I should be ready in another week or two.  I threw in a session of Cardio Abs just to get in another 16mins of Cardio.  My abs are going to thank me!!!!

Today I really had to motivate myself to get up and push play.  I guess after getting off track with my nutrition I felt like I was bloated.  Kenpo X was just what I needed.  I have great controlled movements, which helped me get my juices flowing.  Another great work-out!!!!

Due to the birth of my son James Michael, I used days 19, 20 and 21 as rest days.  As for as day 22 goes, I don't know if it was taking the three days off or if it's just that Core Cardio & Balance was tough.  But I did have a great work-out.  I was gasping fo air at the end.  I would have to say that the first day of Recovery Week was a success.

It is hard to believe that the resistance work-outs of Phase I is over.   I am extremely pleased with my reps and weights especially for this routine because I hated this work-out during the first round.  I'm still not in love with it but my legs have slimmed down and the quads are especially strong thanks to all the squats and lunges.
